"Boost your listing to sell faster": Vinted offers it at every publication. But does it pay, or does it eat the margin? We're well placed to answer: our own shops spent over €4,400 incl. VAT on boosts and wardrobe spotlights in a single half-year (1,405 invoices). Here is what that expensive experience taught us.
What a boost actually does
A boost pushes your listing up feeds and searches for 3 or 7 days. It multiplies views, not desire: an average listing boosted is still an average listing — seen by more people. A boost is an accelerator, never a rescuer: if the item hasn't sold because of price, photos or season, paying to show it more fixes nothing.
The 3 rules our invoices taught us
- Never boost a €5 item. A boost quickly costs €1-2: on a small piece that's 20-40% of the margin gone to advertising. Our own curve shows it: over time we did fewer small boosts and more spotlights — our average cost per invoice went from €3.17 to €7.47, for a much better effect.
- Boost the rising season, not the falling one. A coat boosted in late September rides the buyer wave; a summer dress boosted at the same time is money burned.
- The wardrobe spotlight often beats unit boosts. It promotes the whole shop for a fixed price: once you have 30-50 active listings, the cost per item becomes unbeatable.
The calculation almost nobody makes
The only question that matters: how much boost for how many extra sales? If you spend €40 on boosts in a month for €60 of extra sales at 50% margin, you lost €10. The problem: Vinted doesn't give you that number — boost invoices are scattered and nobody adds them up.
