Selling a lot does not mean earning a lot. After observing hundreds of wardrobes, it is always the same mistakes that separate profitable sellers from those running on empty. Here they are — and how to fix them.
1. Ignoring the real purchase price
A 20 kg bale at €150 does not make items "free": every piece has a real cost (the bale price divided, share of unsellable items included). Without a purchase price per item, your "margin" is an illusion. Assign a cost to every piece as it enters stock, even a rough one.
2. Forgetting peripheral costs
Packaging, labels, fuel for the drop-off point, subscriptions… These "small" costs often represent 5 to 10% of turnover. If they are recorded nowhere, your displayed profit is overstated by just as much.
3. Pricing by gut feeling
The right price is not the one you "feel", it is the one the market pays. Look at your own past sales by category and brand: if your jeans sell in 4 days and your dresses in 90, your jeans are priced too low and your dresses too high.
4. Letting stock sleep
An item with no views for 60 days will not sell itself. Re-shoot, relist, lower the price, or put it in a clearance bundle. Dormant stock is frozen cash and lost space — the two resources that cap your growth.
5. Confusing sales with payouts
A "completed" sale is not money in the bank: the Vinted balance, delayed transfers and refunds create a permanent lag. If you steer your cash on sales, you discover the gaps at the worst moment. Track both curves separately.
6. Running everything on a spreadsheet
A spreadsheet works at 30 items. At 300, every sale takes 5 minutes of data entry, errors pile up, and you spend your evenings reconciling instead of sourcing. Admin time is a cost like any other — cutting it is margin.
7. Neglecting the tax side
Buying to resell = a commercial activity to declare. With DAC7, your volumes are reported to the authorities automatically. A late regularisation always costs more than a clean declaration from the start — and rigorous tracking makes declaring trivial.
The common thread
These seven mistakes share one root: the lack of reliable numbers. Purchase price per item, costs, rotation, payouts — when that data exists and updates itself, good decisions become obvious. That is exactly what a CRM built for Vinted sellers automates.
